Get To Know Me

welcome!

I’m Miranda, the recipe developer, photographer, and writer behind Resume Recipes! My aim is to create recipes that are nutritious, delicious, and concisely written. Resume Recipes is my new blog that’s all about simple recipes that are healthy and fun to make. I’m a passionate cook and baker, and I love to teach others how to cook from home. I find that too many of my friends and family repeat the same set of meals or rely heavily on take-out. While I completely understand due to their busy lives, I want to teach them how to make some simple recipes that are healthy and delicious. That way, they can save some money each week by cooking at home. What’s not to love about that?

While I post lots of traditional recipes, I also post modified, more modern health-conscious recipes. It’s my goal to help people improve the quality of food that they eat. I love nutrition, so I always try to make sure that my recipes have lots of vitamins and minerals. Your body needs solid fuel to get you through the day, and that’s what I provide here!

my backstory

I grew up in the kitchen. My sister and father taught me to cook, my grandma taught me to bake, and my brother taught me to stay back from the grill because that was his thing. Over the years, I learned how to show my creativity and love through food and cooking. Cooking and baking connects me to places all over the world, and every time I eat something new I feel like I’m on a whole new adventure. One of the simple but great pleasures in this world is to discover a delicious new dish. It’s a pleasure so thrilling to me that I am always willing to try new foods and cook new meals.

As I grew into adulthood and kept semi-obsessively trying new recipes, I noticed many of my peers were curious how to spice up things in their own kitchens. I had many times where I’d describe to a friend a new dish I made that week, and they would ask me how I thought up how to make it. I started to take notice of what the main obstacles were in people’s lives when it came to cooking and realized it was generally an issue of creativity, a fear of failing at a new cooking skill, and accessibility to recipes that were either too simple or too intimidating. Food is so joyous to me that it bothered me to think of my loved ones eating the same meals over and over not because they were happy that way, but because they just weren’t sure what else to do.

So I set out a goal to start writing my creations down and sharing them with others, and I found that actually creating the recipes was something I really enjoyed. Growing up I learned that when you’re not baking you can improvise, so writing recipes was a fun new discovery to me. Then the pandemic hit. During COVID-19, I kept writing recipes and started to see the size of my potential portfolio and realized that perhaps I could turn this into a project that was fun for me, helpful to others, and also a source of income. And here we are at Resume Recipes! It’s been a long and winding road, and I have no idea where it’s taking me, but I’m glad to be on it and doing something I love.

my food philosophy

My philosophy on food has changed over time. As a child, I didn’t think at all about what the food was doing for my physical body. All I could register was what I felt about the food, not how it benefited me internally. My house was much more focused on taste than health and generally the vegetables we did have were bagged salad mixes that felt fresh but boring to me. Why eat romaine lettuce when there’s also pizza on my plate? When I started living alone and cooking for myself, I quickly found that only eating the fun stuff felt terrible for my body, so I set out to find a new dietary path! Over the years, I started to learn about all kinds of fruits and vegetables I’d never noticed before, from kale to persimmons to beets. I studied nutrition in my free time and started to gather some enjoyment out of what the food did for me as well as how I felt about it. I learned that you CAN have your cake and eat it too; that you can mix fun and healthy foods together and they can genuinely taste amazing with a little tinkering. Nowadays, my goal is to create foods that are balanced while also making your taste buds sing! After all, the best diet is that one you want to stick to because it’s so dang good.

out of the kitchen

Cooking is probably my number one passion in life, but physical movement comes in a close second. I’m an avid weightlifter, hiker, dancer, and city walker. If I don’t move for a few hours every day I just don’t feel like myself. I also love to travel and explore, so I try to go on road trips and camping weekends as much as I can. I live in Oregon, so there is no shortage of amazing and accessible outdoor adventures to take. I’m lucky to live with my fiancé Robert, my best friend Eleanor, and our amazing kitten (weirdly enough also named Eleanor). Together our happy little household spends a lot of time gardening, obsessively watching our cat, and, well, eating.
